DNSDomain Name System, or DNS, is the most recognized system for assigning addresses to Internet web servers (aka "Internet hosts"). Somewhat like international phone numbers, the domain name system helps to give every Internet server a memorable and easy-to-spell address. Simultaneously, the domain names keep the really technical IP address invisible for most viewers. |
Name ServerName Server translate a domain name (URL) into the IP address it should point to. IP Address: Because the internet uses addresses made up of numbers to locate servers / computers that serve content to the end user - it would be difficult to remember the address for your website or email for instance: website2host.co.za would be 41.86.108.42 It's easier to remember website2host.co.za and it is to remember 41.86.108.42 This is why name servers are used - it tells your browser which IP address the website you're looking for, is on - all this is done without you even knowing while you surf the internet. Each domain should have a minimum of two nameservers assigned to it (this is done at the registrar). Name servers are used to locate the server in which your site is hosted. Our server uses 2 IP (Internet Protocol) address to identify themselves on the Internet. A domain name uses the name servers to lock it to a server, so when a user types in a domain name it is brought to the server in which the name servers belong to. |
